Target Audience Questionnaire and Explanation
List your 3 favourite Music genres
The asking of this question gives us
an idea of what genre we may want to look into doing for our music video; based
on what our target audience thinks is popular. By asking for three choices, it
gives our audience more room to think; instead of hastily picking a
‘favourite’.
Name your favourite artist in each of these genres
Whilst this question does not
directly affect our production, it does give us an idea of who is popular; and
provides us with a research opportunity into why they may be popular and what
kind of music and/or videos they create.
Name your favourite music video from each of these artists
This basically boils down to what
the audience’s favourite music videos are. By asking this we can see exactly
what people enjoy to watch and allows us to compare these videos (as we asked
for three again) in order to pinpoint any similarities/conventions that we
should incorporate into our own production (or any glaring differences that
could point to why these videos are more successful than others).
Why did you enjoy each of these music videos?
Once again, this allows us to know
exactly what it is that has made these videos stand out for our audience and
why they enjoy them enough to mention them. It allows us as a group to be able
to analyse the videos and replicate the success of them.
What do you believe makes a memorable music video?
This question ties perfectly in with
our production as it allows us to hear first hand what we need to do to make
our video stand out and be remembered by our audience. The aim for our music
video is to make it memorable, so we have asked our audience exactly how we can
achieve that.
Give 3 examples of Music Videos that are the most memorable
to you
This is similar to the previous
question but instead of asking for favourites (which is obviously down to
personal preference) we are asking for what has been memorable; perhaps because
this music video was groundbreakingly different or innovative (either
narratively or cinematically).
Do you believe a Music Video should be based more around
performance or narrative and why?
As a group we were thinking of incorporating
a mix of the two factors; a decision that can be easily changed based on
audience feedback; because if the audience does not like one or the other,
there is no point including it.
When viewing a music video, do you mind if the aspect ratio
is letterboxed?
Again, this is just getting the
audiences input on an artistic decision that we want to make as a group,
because we believe that having a letterboxed Music Video provides a more
visually appealing experience.
Do you prefer narratively focused shots, or ones that are
more ‘impressive’ and ‘aesthetically pleasing?
Finally, just asking the audience
for input on what kind of shots they would like to see in the finished product,
however we are planning on using a mixture of both anyway.
