Production Diary Two - 26/09/2017
After pitching our initial ideas to Miss Mayhew, we begin to have regrets about our narrative for our music video. From the feedback that we had gotten, we came to realise that the narrative was simple and unoriginal, and as a group we wanted to add something deeper to our final product, to make it stand out in a large market. We also had doubts about the song itself; as we thought we could use performance aspects for the chorus and narrative for the verses - but we found that the verses were a lot shorter and a lot less frequent than the choruses, so any kind of story would not be able to be put across.
However, after a group brainstorm, we decided to change the narrative to be about the isolation from society that is felt by homosexual groups. We thought that the lyrics of the song could begin as a cry of hatred towards a member of a couple that had broken off the relationship, but, as the song progressed, the main character would realise that it was the pressures of society that led to the ending of their relationship and so the song becomes a rebellion against societal views and norms.
This completely deepens the meaning of the song and our Music Video, and as a result I think we will produce a product we are more proud about. In regards to the structure of the Music Video, we decided to inter-splice performance aspects with larger narrative revelations during the chorus, so that we can still include a full progression of story-line and the performance that is a key aspect of the Rock genre. This has completely changed our overall idea for the product, but the techniques, locations and company/band name will remain the same.
