Filming Day 3 - A Lot Of Fire
After our previous days of filming, we were left with a large chunk of our narrative still needing to be captured on camera. We also had learnt that in order to make our filming day successful and efficient we needed to get a wide array of shots more quickly. As a result we used three cameras, two DSLRs and one Iphone. This provided us with three times as much footage in the time it took for one set of footage. The weather wasn't great, which I will go over in the weather reflection post but we decided to push through. I'm glad we did as this was our favourite filming day so far.
The rest of the footage that we captured included the bonfire. The bonfire itself was difficult to start due to the wet weather but after around half an hour we managed to get it started. The way we built it was by starting with paper and then building up to bigger and bigger sticks over the course of the half an hour. We then captured the footage that we wanted, including some more lip-syncing, lots of slow motion shots of burning polaroids, the fire burning or Jordan tippin the basket of letters onto the fire. We also captured some Depth of Field shots, with the highlight of our filming being the beautiful shot of the christian cross over the fire.
Today we got the bonfire scenes filmed and also the smoke grenade scenes; one where Jordan did lip-syncing for the video. The smoke-grenades were very easy to use and worked better than we had expected, producing a lot of smoke and giving us lots of footage to use. The reason we chose to use smoke grenades were because of the contrast between colours we could create but also because smoke and fire can be related together and our music videos theme is fire. The shots that we captured included the previously mentioned lip syncing, which we filmed at dusk, and a practice set of shots using the yellow smoke grenade on the BMX and then the full shot of Jordan riding his BMX through the purple smoke cloud. We captured each of these shots using 2 DSLRs from different angles and then the Iphone 6S Plus for slow motion. I think that the footage went pretty well, considering the weather and the fact that we only had one try at using each one so there were no opportunities for practising.
In conclusion, I think the day went pretty well as we were able to capture everything that we needed. It was the most complicated day with the most equipment and props but we managed to handle it perfectly. We believe that we will need two more filming days to complete all the footage.
