Choosing Our Artist

Script

Each member of my group’s favourite genre of music is Indie. Due to this, and through the understanding that an indie music video would be the best way to demonstrate new and fresh ideas, we have decided to create an indie rock group and attached music video. We decided to follow the band format; calling ourselves Don’t Tell ‘Em. The reason we went for this name was due to its simplicity – allowing an audience to remember it more easily. Also it can easily be searched for online, extending our audience outreach, and is different enough from other names to be recognisable.

For our company name we went for M.O.A.B – standing for Mother Of All Bands. This was a name that Alyx suggested and we liked it due to the way it applies directly to its roll; the company/label behind our band acting like a mother to a child whom needs nurturing. Also by using an acronym the name is made more simple, which means people won’t be turned away from the actual name and can instead only know the shorter more catchy version.

As our chosen genre is Indie Rock, the looks of our band need to be fitting to the conventions of that genre. We have decided to utilise the conventional costumes for each of our personas; such as wearing ripped jeans, flannel shirts and denim jackets. We want to stick to a dark colour scheme, nothing overly bright, and we want to keep a homemade ‘up and coming’ quality to the look of the band – so no over the top settings/performance areas. We also want to focus on the lead singer; so having him always near the front of the band during performances and videos and also on the promotional material is a very important aspect.

The reason we have chosen to do this is through the influence of the indie band The 1975. They have a lead singer that is recognisable and is the figurehead of the band – the person whom people think of when they hear the bands music. They also follow the same idea for positioning and costume and colour scheme; so we know these methods are tested and are effective.
